I think the reason it bothered my cousins, especially the younger ones, so much because they very rarely had anything for school that was theirs first! Garsy

So a related question...with three H's, if we have a 4th, do we need another H name?? (The kids have been lobbying for another one (specifically a boy), though I'm feeling done.) On what would such an obligation be based?? Use whatever name you like. I have cousins whose names were Jaqueline, Zachary, and Makenzie, also known as Jackie, Zach, and Mack (I don't think my uncle and aunt thought that through, it just happened). Their baby sister is....Abigail. As far as I know none of them are permanently scarred, either by matching nicknames or being the non-matching one.

Some other names I met that seemed odd: a co-worker named Briar (and her middle name was Rose) a boy named Bladen a girl named Satorie Around here Trinity is a common name and today I saw a girl named Rhyan; not sure how she pronounced it though.

I like most names but not the very long ones or unusual ones. Like Trout Fishing In America or Moxie Crimefighter. Com-on, your kid has to live with this name for the rest of their lives or until they are legally able to change it. Being a Substitute Preschool Teacher, I see how much trouble the kids have writing a long first name with all those letters that are hard to write. I feel sorry for those children. I'm in Menopause so having children is out and it would have to be an Immaculate Conception if I was to have any, but if I did, it would be something not hard to pronounce, something easy to spell and easy for them to learn to write. If you name your kid Sam and she's a girl and it's not Samantha, when the teachers call her name for role, and she raises her hand, I would imagine the teacher would think Sam was a boy and this is girl. Tiger Woods named his daughter Sam. That's just me saying that. Maybe the teacher wouldn't think that but I would. Anyway, I'm Catholic and when I was born, in 1954, in order for you to be baptised Catholic, you had to be named after a Saint. So my real name is Abigail and the name everyone has called me but isn't the name of a Saint is Gail. A lot of people don't know about Abigail but if I were to get married they would! I've worked with 2 people with my name of Gail. One I didn't work with for long because she got fired for stealing and this was in the 1995. So before 1995 I had never worked with a Gail. From 1999 till 2009 when they let her go, I worked with another Gail in my preschool. Since she was so tall, when we worked together in the same class, I was little Gail and she was big Gail. Some teachers when they heard that were offended! I never got that. I was the one who thought of doing that and the other Gail didn't mind, she was okay with it. I like my name. 4 letters and easy to write. My middle name is Mary after my grandmother. My middle sister is Kathie Sue and we don't know to many people who spell their name Kathie. My youngest sister is Cheryl Ann. My niece is Isabella but we call her Bella. Her middle name is Rose after my mom. My nephew is Alexander David, but we call him Alex. First name after my dad's dad, middle after his dad who he never sees. They are divorced. I like those names too. This year in our school there is an Abigail and I make sure I tell her that's my real name too. I like a lot of names that aren't to unusual and some old fashioned like Sarah, which is one of my grandmother's names. Just don't do the weird stuff.

Forgot to mention mom's boss who passed away last year. His name was Bob Platt. People had no trouble with his first name but mispronounced his last name! It's pronounced like Flat but with a pl in front of it. Now my last name is impossible to pronounce, it's Polish. Nobody ever gets it right and when they do, I am totally amazed. I can count on one hand the number of people who can actually pronounce my last name. I guess some people are just bad at pronouncing first and last names.

I know a young mom whose name ( married name) is Brandy Redwine. I"m always tempted to ask her is she married him for the name or in spite of it! When I was a teenager, there was a little girl in the church nursery named Stori Love.....Love, Stori on those last name first forms! I just saw a birth announcement in a church bulletin: The Green Family: Mom, Dad, Big brother...is happy to announce the arrival of new daughter/sister Meadow....seriously people?

My last name is Polish, that's why it's hard to pronounce and yeah, it weeds out the telemarketers. Once, when I had met Rick Springfield, the singer, who was single at the time, I told him I could never marry him. He asked me why and I said because our last names were the same number of letters and I vowed to marry someone who had a shorter last name than mine. He thought that was very funny. I liked him a lot and he never asked me to marry him but we are friends. He liked the joke.

ORIGINAL: Taffy_ I know a Copper Link, Summer Day and her sister Autumn Day I knew a girl in college whose name was Winter. Her sisters were indeed Autumn and Summer. She was an awesome girl though. Being a teacher I have heard some odd names- America (her middle and last names also started with A, so her initials were AAA) Sincere (I think that was the spelling) Yesenia (actually had 2 in one class) Daniery (girl- a sweetie) I have a difficult to spell/pronounce last name, but I lean towards first names that are a bit unique without being too off the wall. I like Nevaeh for a girl, and Ephraim for a boy (but DH has vetoed that one), along with a few others.

Yesenia is actually a very common name. I have a wee little cousin named Nevaeh Now around here both of those names would be considered uncommon and very unique! In fact before today I had NEVER heard Yesenia before. Blessings, Garsy

We are pretty traditional and didn't want something weird or hard to spell. I actually like most of the most popular names on the top 25 list, but we tried to stay away from the most common just for the sake of not having him end up as one of 5 with his same name in his class. And then there were a bunch of names that we liked that rhymed with our common last name, so those were out, too. We are naming him Andrew Timothy, and will probably call him Drew in order to head off people shortening it to Andy (which I don't prefer). Timothy is Brian's middle name and his dad's name. Andrew, we just liked. Our second choice was Grant Timothy. I still like it and we might use Grant for a second son, on the outside chance we end up having another child.

The weirdest name I ever saw was on the nametag of a woman working at Target. Her name was Sh*thead. Pronounced "shi-THEED". I am not making this up. My dad is a teacher and once had a student in class named Pajama, pronounced "PAY-jamay". I don't understand why people do stuff like that to their kids. That's way beyond unique and borders on cruel - especially the first one!

My children have classmates whose parents are of Indian (as in India) descent and have some pretty bizarre names, but nothing like the first name you mentioned. However I was talking to the mom yesterday about this very topic and she said that some of the common names in her country would sound, to American's, like American cuss words. But in India they are just names. The area I live in has a very large Burmese population and some of the names are very interesting to say the least. Very unique here in America, some would even consider them cruel names for a child, but in their culture and country, to them the names are very beautiful and have loads of meaning. So maybe the names had some cultural significance that we do not know about. Blessings, Garsy

We had a kid in our school named Christ and I freaked out! How can I call this kid by his first name as it would be a sin for me to call him that? They were from The Dominican Republic I think and his name was pronounced like wrist but with the Ch in front of it. Phew! I could not imagine anyone being named after my Lord and Savior. We had or still have a Yesenia in my preschool. We had 2 Deja's in our school a few years ago and I think that's how it was spelled. When I mentioned my last name, it has 11 letters. That's what I meant by a shorter last name. Sometimes I hate having to write it.
