There are search functions that let you search by name - can be hard with common names. You can search by e-mail as well. Now they have a unique userid so you can search by that too.
It's good to have a picture and some info about yourself public so people who search for you can determine if you are you when they find you.
FB also suggest friends for you based on people you know - not bad actually. eg - once our high school graduating class began to find each other one by one it got easy pretty fast to find more of them.
Maybe there are other ways - I'd like to know. The app doesn't come with a manual per se so I just use features I see by the clicky-clicky-AHA method.

I only didn't join it because I don't like to join very many groups. I think 99.9% of them are just silly. And that might be a low estimate!

I love social networking, but simply because I live in another state now and have no other way to catch up with all my friends and family anymore. It keeps me up to date, so I really enjoy it.
