Deb, no matter what, you always have the final say in things like that. If you have personal conviction or religious beliefs, the school has to honor it. I went through that with Jake and they were a bit put off by it, but they didn't give me any hassle. I also learned it goes the same way with class selection. If your child is in regular classes and you want them to be in a harder or advanced class, you always have the right to override the teacher recommendation. Those people at the school and on the school board work for you and while they don't advertise that you have more say so than they do, you do. Ok, now I have a situation. Kali has a girl in her 3rd grade class who has cancer. She has a website set up on caringbridge. Kali got a hold of my login and decided to go post in the guestbook. First she posted the sweetest message, but then in between, I got an e:mail that my great uncle is sick and wasn't to make it through the night. Well, she saw that, then went back to caringbridge and left another sweet message, but also mentioned that her uncle wasn't going to make it through the night. I tried to contact the admins of the board, but couldn't get through so I put a message out there and explained that I didn't want the kids to read that and be frightened, but it was Kali's great great uncle, he didn't die of cancer, just old age, and that I just wanted to clarify that. Is there anything else I should do? I don't want the kids in the class to see this and flip out, or worse yet, the sick child to see that someone died. that might flip her out.

Science fair boards are DONE!!!!! And it's not even midnight yet!!!! Can you tell I'm a tad bit excited? Time for a good long soak in the tub! quote:
The teacher did send home a note saying that she had a hard time keeping up with the other kids during guided worksheets. she's used to working at her own pace (read: lazy ) so it's going to be interesting to see how she does when she's not able to fart around. What grade? And not to worry. She'll get the hang of it eventually. Blessings, Garsy

Tracy, I think you handled it fine with the website. Sandy, I'm so glad it went well for your daughter! and you! R was home sick today. She had diarrhea this morning and was complaining about her stomach so I let her stay home. She had a stomach bug over the weekend and threw up a couple of times. She did go to school yesterday. She hasn't been eating well at times; hubby thinks she is afraid to eat since she was sick. She had a pretty good lunch though. But anyway, I think she gets hungry so her stomach hurts, but she doesn't know quite why her stomach hurts so she doesn't want to eat. PT Conferences start tomorrow. So no school Thursday or Friday. We were suppose to have Friday off, but they canceled all of the days off because of all the snow days. I'm not sure if we even get Good Friday off, but surely we do. They would have a lot of upset people if they canceled that.

Yes, I'd be surprised if your schools messed with Good Friday, Kath! Good to hear Linz is doing well. Was your previous avatar an old picture of your farm, Kath? Is the new one a current pic? Going through pics after my dad died we found an old aerial picture of the farm I grew up on. It was from the 50s probably; my older brother didn't remember some of the stuff on it. And of course Dad wasn't there to ask. I think my brother talked to one of my dad's cousins about it though. My brother and I had never seen it before; it was pretty cool. The high school has enrollment for next year instead of conferences. Parents can go with their kids to enroll; but I'm not sure I see the point. I already signed off on her schedule. Dee

I don't see the point either, especially if you signed off on it. One year when Linz was in 8th they had a room that the guidance counselor was in and we had to go in there to talk to her, but we still had conferences, too. It must have just been for the 8th to high school transition because it was just the one year. Linz is getting excited about her DC trip. She is going with a bunch of kids from the Honors Govt class.

Wow, that sounds like a great trip for Linz! When does she go? Is she a senior? This year all the teachers will be in the gym for enrollment, like they are for conferences. Only they are there to enroll the kids in their seminar (homeroom) class. That is my understanding anyway. Previously (last 4 years) we got a letter with a time for us to go meet with our child's seminar teacher to enroll. That was in their classroom. This year we just show up Thursday afternoon/evening. The parent is not required to go this year. At least my indecisive 15yo has her classes picked out. Their schedules had to be turned in today. She wanted to take 3 1 semester classes first semester; I told her she would have a hard time finding 3 1 sem. classes to take second semester so she should switch one of the one sem classes to second semester. And the girl who wanted to be a chef isn't taking catering next year so I guess she doesn't know now what she is interested in so much. I wish I remembered when the kids found out of any of their classes conflicted with each other time-wise causing a need to pick different classes. I think that choir is the only of K's classes that there is just one block of, so it should work out. Off to bed.... Dee

Well, I managed to not drink coffee for a week. I don't know why. I was torqued about Lent. Sounds awful. But, all of these folks talking about 'giving up sweets' and how much weight they'd lose made me mad. I don't feel the need to give something up, but it bugged me that folks were attributing to their faith, but it sounded more like a diet plan. I thought to myself it would be like giving up coffee. So I did. No headaches. (though I do drink weak tea so...) And, when I had a Mountain Dew yesterday, it didn't send my heart nutso. School. I hate school. Only 6 1/2 more years to go. Can we move? Can I quit and homeschool? I can't stand them any more... After 11 years I've hit my tipping point. My kid has C in Algebra. Why? Because his math teacher also has gifted kids and expects him to learn it when she says it and has decided when he asks questions he is trying to waste her time so she tells him he should know and moves on. This is his second year with her and at this point, she doesn't like his attitude. She won't work with him outside of class if he doesn't work to her standard in class. He needs an A in this class. My daughter has one teacher who tosses paper at them all morning. She runs a very loose classroom, they chat, they joke, they learn, they chat, they get assignments, they talk about them, she loses my kids attention and then she gives details and DeeDee misses them. This is all DeeDee's failing of course, and by expressing an interest in changing that, I have p-ss'd them off enough that they are MEAN to her. The elementary school guidance counsel hates me because I corrected her. Well, I wanted to talk to DeeDee's math teacher before I signed a paper and asked for a call but got the guidance counselor instead. Mrs K told me she called to answer any questions I had about my classes and my schedule for next year. I pointed out I had passed 7th already. And DeeDee loses things. My house is a mess, you can't walk thru it, I can't get help when I'm here and I'm never here. There is no place left for anything. We look like we belong on a hoarding TV reality/horror show. It is awful, and no one cares. As long as there is food, and they look decent in public and we meet our obligations they are happy. OK - I'm done venting. I have also managed to NOT get on CW or play cards at work for a few days. Problem is, I'm still not able to think straight long enough to do anything. I type the wrong words. (in this post, I typed is is, instead of his is - things like that) I don't know where to start and all I do is think about all the stuff I need to do. YIKES.

Tracy, I agree that you did what you could about the website. Is Kali a good friend of this girl? BlessedMama, I hope things continue to go well with your PS'er. After a week or two, she most likely will have settled in to the teacher's expectations on classwork pretty well. She'll probably come home telling you what you're doing wrong! At least, that's what my kids did each year for a while. I wasn't reading that right cause I wasn't using my fingers to follow the words on the page. I wasn't supposed to turn the page before I actually said the last word. I needed to change some of our home rules because they had to do it * this * way at school. It was always so funny to me. Dee, I hope R is better. Kath, love the farm. How's everyone in your household, including you? (((Mbee))) Been there, feel your pain. Some days I look around our house and think "I'm never going to get on top of things." And I never do. But I do get close enough to see the other side. Hang in there! The kids have been watching some old home videos we found. Apparently, now I'm even more weird than ever. "I can't believe you did that?" Umm, I don't think I've changed that much. Didn't you call me weird last week? It was fun remembering some of those trips and reunions. (Even though, I couldn't remember all the folks' names at the reunion.)

Good morning to all! Kath...love the picture! You have trees!!! From what my dh has described, he is in a "scrub brush" type of tree area. He has also been met at the worksite gate by a few tumbleweeds. Garsy...glad the projects are done!!! Momma...sorry you are having teacher troubles. About the house...I can appreciate your sentiment. My Christmas decorations are sitting in boxes in the dining room because my dh is not here and my ds and I never seem to be home at the same time to get the tree, etc... up into the attic. Blessedmama...hope that your dd as a great day in school! Dee hope that your baby is feeling better! High school class enrollment...hard to believe that my "baby" ds will soon be registering for high school. sigh... Deb...so it is probably a good thing that we don't have a video recorder??? My old perms alone would be enough problem for my children to see... Rainbowskies...I don't know if you can retract a CaringBridge post, but, I would consider changing your internet log in. I'm a toughie...even my soon to be 14 year doesn't have the password. Hope everyone has a nice day! Kath...it's supposesd to start warming up there next week (I took a look at the long range forecast)! My dh will be very happy!!

Oh yes....I really torqued my glasses the other night (hit a clothes rack at work and very glad that I had my glasses on) so I'm off to be another pair of glasses today. Hopefully I can keep the cost under $300. I need to go search the internet for coupons. I have a 30% discount at LensCrafters with AAA, so that will probably be my best option. Plus, they are the only "quick" service that seems to keep my lenses in stock.

I have also managed to NOT get on CW or play cards at work for a few days. I've noticed you weren't around, I was wondering where you were. I know how you feel about stuff everywhere. I think I have stuff put away pretty much, except for counters and such, but it's furniture. Larry can't throw away anything, and he takes furniture from others. Right now it's desks, we have so many desks we don't have much wall space anymore. I am truly getting claustrophobic. quote:
Kath, love the farm. How's everyone in your household, including you? Hi Debilyn! I'm doing pretty good. How about you? :) I love our farm, too. I love this house. It needs a lot of work but I still love it. quote:

LOL, that makes it sound so desolate! I guess it is pretty open out there. Oh yes, plenty of trees! Our house stays pretty dark because of it. Right now it's bright because the trees are bare. I'm so glad to see the sun, it seems like months since we've seen it. And it's cold! It's only 9* right now. quote:

Julia, good to see you, how much longer will your hubby be gone? Kath, after I asked what year Linz was I remembered she was smack dab in between my two oldest, which would of course make her a junior! So is she going on her trip with a group of seniors or do juniors take government there? (((((MBee))))) I'm sorry you are having teacher problems; it sounds like a pretty small school so you are stuck with who they have? Debilyn, the old videos sound like fun! R is feeling better today; this morning I asked how she was feeling and she said "magnificent!" I asked how she felt yesterday and she said "icky.' Deb, I forgot to answer about opting kids out. We have had opportunities to opt kids out. The only time we did was for DARE (drug awareness and resistance education). Not because I found it objectionable but because I decided it was pointless. I did let my next two kids go through the program. Dee

I don't think that this girl was in school long enough for them to become that close, but my daughter is very sympathetic to people when it comes to illness or death. When my aunt died, Kali spent the entire night with her arms around her cousin who was my aunt's granddaughter. I have been doing alot of painting lately and I am so sick of painting. We still need to do our kitchen and family room ceiling since they run into eachother, and we have to also do the kitchen walls, then we can start in on the bedrooms. I wish we would have done this last year, then we would be done. Jake is not doing so hot in science and I spoke with his teacher. Hopefully we are all on the same page now, and Jake will step up. Our last pom competition is Sunday and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! I need a break from activities. But then again, it is a nice break from the kids. Either way, I just need a break because I feel like I am ready to snap.

I am VERY irritated with my dogs right now. They got to running tonight and managed to catch a cord that pulled my computer right off the desk. Now it doesn't want to work. If the hard drive and memory are damaged beyond repair - well it's about 2 years of photos gone. And my goal tonight was to do a back up. I thought I had sent a back-up disk up to my mom but she can't find it now. Maybe I sent it to my sister, but I can't get a hold of her. Brian's unsure if anything is going to be saved. I'm using Brian's laptop right now. BUT - on a good note. Zoe is one of our runners-up for regional science fair this year. Our schools fair was today and Zoe placed 6th! The first 5 go to regionals with the two runners-up as back-up. She does get a free trip to our local science museum tho. That was likely more of a big deal to her than going to the regional fair! I volunteered all day for this. It was a very long very exhausting day. I was the only parent volunteer. Next year I think I'll recruit my own parent volunteers. Brian got a call this afternoon too! He goes in for a final interview either tomorrow or Friday!! Hopefully before long he'll be working at one of Nestles ice cream branches - namely Edy's!! Blessings, Garsy

Yay for Zoe! Garsy, I do hope you can save the pictures. I hope Brian gets the job! Kath, yeah, here seniors take government and juniors take American history. Conferences tonight for R and N at the middle school. We talked to the teachers at the middle school; much more helpful than the student led conferences (with one teacher) that they have in the fall. I know that middle school is awful for some kids so I'm very happy that middle school is going so well for N. The teachers seem to genuinely like N and are concerned about how quiet he is. Well, they are glad that he is quiet, but don't want him to be too quiet. Last year was such an awful year for him I am so happy that this year is going better. Dee

The tech tried. The directory came up and then it ran for 2 solid hours and refused to bring up anything. The hard drive is gone. Along with that a HUGE batch of my photos. I KNOW I have back-ups on Brian's computer for most of my photos, and my mom has some things as well, but just the thought of most of them from the last half of 2007 through now being gone is killing me. We did a back-up for the photos about 6 months ago and sent the disk to my mom, but just never thought to ask her about it and she's not sure if she even received it now. HOPEFULLY she did. but I did lose all but one of Zoe's dance photos. Well I guess what we do have is a good thing and now I'm a bit more caught up with my scrapbooking than I thought I was. Brian's final interview is in 10 minutes. School wise we are gearing up for part of our state testing that starts next week. At the elementary school they really make this a big deal. This whole week has been leading up to an assembly today where they are finally going to tell the kids what the whole gorilla thing is all about. Let me explain. On Monday when the kids got to school there were a few signs with a gorilla's picture on it - like out of a coloring book or clip art. Tuesday even more appeared. Wednesday those signs started gaining little encouragement captions. Of course by now the kids are talking. Yesterday we had someone in a gorilla suit running through the building and into classrooms causing a general ruckus. I get accused of being the gorilla. I'm not the gorilla and I don't know who is! I should go for the assemble just to see who is in the monkey suit! And then at the end of next week the 3-5th grades will get the afternoon off and just have a big old party in the gym and cafeteria, complete with music, games, cake and ice cream. gotta go and pray for this interview. Blessings, Garsy

Snow day #2! Nick will go back to his mom's when she gets out of work. We got somewhere between 24 and 30 inches in the past two days. It's hard to tell exactly how much because it is such wet packy snow! I hope Brian's interview went well!!!
